I'm here if you're struggling with depression or think you might be

Asking for help and finding the right support isn't necessarily easy if depression (or another mental health issue) is weighing you down. But I hope you'll make contact with me. I'm here for you.

As a mental health therapist, I've worked with many people impacted by depression. I can support you in finding your way through it and increasing your overall sense of well-being.

What you may be experiencing

Depression is common, but the effects can vary.

You may recognise persistent low mood/sadness, a loss of interest or pleasure in things, tearfulness, fatigue, irritability, frustration, anger, numbness, emptiness, low self-worth, feelings of suicide.

Depression can be debilitating and distressing, which may leave you feeling exhausted, stuck, overwhelmed or lacking a sense of control.

Or you may feel alone, a burden, weak, a failure, or unsupported in what you're experiencing.

I'm here for you, whatever you're experiencing. And you can email, or call or text 07729 193629.

Working online or over the phone

I offer sessions online or over the phone - we don't need to be in the same room or even see each other for depression counselling to work for you.

What you can expect in sessions

Offering a compassionate and non-judgmental space, you'll be welcome as you are (there's no expectation to be or feel a certain way).

And you will be genuinely heard and understood.

We can work together at your pace to relieve the thoughts and feelings of your depression/low mood and any experiences underlying them.

If you're struggling with suicidal thoughts and feelings, exploring them together can help you gain some control and rediscover feelings of hope.

Rest assured, I won't contribute to any feelings of stigma or shame around your depression, but I will support you in working through them.

How I can help you

I can help you feel part of a genuinely safe, trusting and supportive relationship where you can:

  • Relieve troubling thoughts and feelings
  • Become more self-compassionate
  • Gain further insights into your depression
  • Develop your self-worth and self-esteem
  • Build confidence and trust in your coping abilities
  • Increase your overall sense of well-being.

Navigating trauma

I work in a trauma-informed way, which includes an awareness that any mental health issue can be a symptom of and a natural response to trauma.

I can work with you to safely and gently explore experiences that may have triggered or be contributing to your depression, such as:

  • Grief and bereavement (including baby loss)
  • Surviving sexual or domestic abuse
  • Stress and burnout
  • Pregnancy, childbirth or parenting issues
  • Relationship issues
  • Being or becoming a carer
  • Chronic illness or disability
  • Bullying, harassment or discrimination.

As I'm a creative counsellor, we don't have to rely solely on talking for this - we can use art or other creative methods to help you in this process.

My experience in mental health

Having provided mental health support since 2006, including for people with complex mental health needs, I can be of support if you're experiencing:

  • Anxiety alongside depression
  • Depression as a part of BPD/EUPD, bipolar disorder or schizoaffective disorder
  • Struggles with other mental health issues, such as PTSD or schizophrenia.

If you're feeling in crisis, I can provide support during our counselling sessions. In 2013, I was awarded a Certificate in Crisis Counselling, which included issues of suicide and crisis counselling skills in depression, mental illness, and abuse.

Parent well-being

Parent well-being is an important part of my counselling work, so I can be of support if you're struggling with depression (or other mental health issues) during pregnancy or following childbirth.

I am listed on the Birth Trauma Association website, so I can also offer this kind of support.

And, I can offer support if you feel your own childhood experiences are getting in the way of you being the parent you really want to be.

Neurodivergence

Depression can develop if you're neurodivergent, and differences in understanding and interactions cause increased stress or burnout, loneliness, isolation, or a lack of understanding from others.

But I can be there for you.

And, I will work at your pace and in a way that is sensitive to your needs and preferences.

Having and seeking a diagnosis

You don't need a diagnosis of depression to access my support or benefit from the counselling we could do together. I'm here for you, regardless.

If you do have a diagnosis of any kind, I will be interested in what it means to you. But I won't see it as defining who you are as a person, nor limiting the unique potential you have within you.

As a counsellor, I'm unable to make any formal diagnoses. If, during our counselling, you decide to pursue a diagnosis because you feel it would be helpful, I will support you in that process.
