"When someone really hears you without passing judgement on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mould you, it feels damn good". - Carl Rogers
Bereavement counselling can offer a safe relationship where you can grieve freely and find your coping
If you're struggling with a recent or past bereavement, you can contact me for support.
The death of a loved one can be truly devastating and distressing - it may be the most painful experience you have ever had to deal with.
And while grief is a natural response, it may not feel like that when you're in the throes of it and trying to process everything that has happened.
Your grief will be personal to you, yet it can catch you off guard and be overwhelming, and you may experience feelings and emotions such as:
- Numbness or emptiness
- Shock and disbelief
- An aching sadness
- Yearning or longing
- Anger, resentment or jealousy
- Guilt, blame, regret or relief
- Panic, anxiety or fear
- A deep sense of loneliness
- Exhaustion and a lack of energy
- Hopelessness and depression.
You may want the pain to go away.
I am here for you.
I can offer a safe and supportive environment where you are welcome as you are and your grief is genuinely validated, heard and understood.
As a practising bereavement counsellor, I work with sensitivity, compassion and non-judgment to help you express your grief, adjust to and come to terms with your loss and find your sense of coping.
I hold an advanced-level Certificate in Grief and Bereavement Counselling, additional training in child bereavement and specific training in the sensitive issues surrounding baby loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss and SIDS.
I have practised bereavement counselling since 2011, yet was a trained Bereavement Volunteer for Cruse Bereavement Care before this, providing one-to-one support and client assessments.
Over the years, I have successfully supported people through circumstances such as: - Bereavement through sudden death and suicide
- Bereavement through cancer
- Experiencing multiple losses
- Being a bereaved carer
- Parent and sibling loss
- Partner and child loss.
Counselling sessions
I can offer individual sessions online (using Zoom, FaceTime or WhatsApp) or over the phone, and I am happy to explore these options with you.
I can help you feel part of a safe and trusting relationship and work at your pace to explore your loss, feelings and emotions and the life you shared with your loved one or the future you hoped for.
Offering you attentive listening, compassion and acceptance, you can feel valued, heard and understood in your grief (perhaps for the first time).
We don't have to rely solely on talking, though - we can use art or other creative mediums to help you express your loss and grief. We can also use creativity to honour your loved one if you'd like to.
I understand that bereavement can naturally trigger new or worsening mental health issues such as PTSD, depression and anxiety. I'm also an experienced mental health therapist, so I can support you through these additional challenges.
Working together can relieve the pain and confusion you're experiencing now, and I can journey with you for as long as you need.
Over time, and with my support, you can come to terms with your loss, adjust to a different life and bring hope and meaning into your future.
