Online And Telephone Counselling. Online and phone counselling

Online and phone counselling are effective forms of therapy and offer greater convenience and flexibility

I have been a practising counsellor since 2011. I hold further training in Online and Telephone Counselling, recognised by the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO).

I now work exclusively online and over the phone under the laws and ethical guidelines of the UK.

Online and phone counselling are effective forms of therapy, and you can access sessions from the comfort of your own home or other private space.

Rest assured - we don't need to be in the same room to establish a good therapeutic relationship or for you to achieve any goals you may have.

Online and phone counselling offer remote support, providing greater convenience and flexibility. But there can be additional benefits.

Being online or over the phone may be more inclusive of your needs (as a carer, new parent, through disability, anxiety or fears or concerns about your appearance) or offer a way of communicating that is more comfortable for you.

Or being in your own space when having your sessions may feel much more discreet or relaxed and help you open up about your struggles.

With online and telephone counselling, you can also bring many of the life challenges you might explore in face-to-face counselling, such as:

  • Loss and bereavement, including baby loss
  • Surviving sexual or domestic abuse
  • Depression, including postnatal depression
  • Anxiety, including panic attacks
  • Stress, including work-related stress
  • Low self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Loneliness or social isolation
  • Relationship issues or changes
  • Coping with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia
  • Trauma, including PTSD and BPD/EUPD.

Please note I have received training in crisis counselling (I hold a certificate in this), so if you're feeling overwhelmed, I can offer support and hope.

I also believe in mental health and trauma recovery and the unique potential you have within you. I can work at your pace to relieve emotional and mental overwhelm and find your sense of wellbeing.

I offer a low-cost 60-minute online or phone consultation to explore counselling together.

If you'd like to arrange a consultation or ask questions about online or phone counselling, please call or text 07729 193629 or email me.

    Privacy considerations
For online or phone counselling, you'll need to consider your environment, such as having access to a private space where you can talk without being overheard or interrupted by others.

Using headphones with a mic can increase privacy, yet if privacy is a concern, let's discuss this and see if we can find a workable solution.

I have a dedicated space for counselling - I will carry out your sessions alone in a quiet room. The devices I use for sessions are password-protected.

My privacy policy outlines how I protect your personal information. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please get in touch.

    Online counselling
Online counselling is over a secure platform such as Zoom, FaceTime or WhatsApp Business.

You will need a device such as a laptop, tablet or phone with a camera and microphone installed.

You will also need a stable internet connection, a secure WiFi network, and an email address.

The first step into online counselling is an initial consultation. If we decide to work together after this, we will confirm a start date for our sessions. We'll also sign an online counselling agreement.

Video or real-time messaging sessions are available. You may have a particular preference.

Messaging can be helpful if you're deaf or hard of hearing, can express yourself more clearly over text or find it easier to process written responses.

Initial sessions are weekly or fortnightly and usually last 60 minutes. Each session will take place on a mutually agreed day and time.

I will email you the details to access a scheduled Zoom session. If our session is over FaceTime or WhatsApp, I'll initiate contact for the session.

Very occasionally, technical issues may arise during or before a session. In this situation, we can switch to a phone call, and I will call you.

If you wish to explore online counselling, please call or text 07729 193629 or email me.

    Telephone counselling
Depending on your preference, telephone counselling can be over a mobile or landline.

Phone counselling can be a good option if you enjoy communicating over the phone, feel more comfortable talking without me looking at you, have concerns about internet privacy or don't feel confident using online technology, such as Zoom.

The first step into telephone counselling is an initial consultation. If we decide to work together after this, we will confirm a start date for our sessions. We'll also sign a phone counselling agreement.

I will call you at our scheduled session time.

As we cannot see each other in session, I may need to ask more questions, yet this can help you tune into your feelings or experiences more closely and develop awareness at a faster pace.
